Mentoring

In addition to our coaching programs, Red Pill also offers a range of mentoring options. Today there are many definitions of the term “mentoring” (refer Levinson et al, 1978; Flaxman et al,1968; Gray 1991), however, Shea,1999 simply relates  mentoring as a fundamental human development where one person invests time, energy and personal know-how assisting the growth and ability of another person.

As our Red Pill team has varied business expertise, this experience is matched with the mentoring requirements of our clients. Using this experience, our coaches are able to gain early acceptance and establish a relationship with the client because they invariably speak the same language and have often shared similar experiences.

Establishing a mentoring program

The story of Mentor comes from Homer’s Odyssey. When Odysseus, King of Ithaca, leaves to fight the Trojan War, he entrusts the care of his household to Mentor, who serves as teacher and overseer of Odysseus’ son, Telemachus.

In time, the word “mentor” became synonymous with “trusted advisor”, “friend”, “teacher” and "wise person”. History presents many examples of helpful mentoring relationships such as Socrates and Plato, Hyden and Beethoven, Freud and Jung.

Red Pill assists companies establishing an in-house mentoring program. We follow a structured five phase approach that commences with the engagement of the host company’s leadership team on the development of the business case for mentoring within their firm.
